Sensitizing Young Minds

Diya Foundation received an invitation from CMR National Public School to come over with a few trainees who would share their stories and challenges to the students. The students had received a project where they had to come up with various ideas and innovations that would benefit people with disabilities.
On September 26, 2017, Monisha Angelo and Farhanulla Sharrief, trainees of Diya Foundation both adults with cerebral palsy interacted with the students of the 11th grade. The students asked them various questions on how they commute from place to place, their circle of friends, their favourite TV shows etc. They also asked them who their sources of strength were and who is their role model. The students were keen to know what drives them every morning to come to Diya and to support themselves and tips that they use to motivate them when things look bleak.
Farhan was asked how he overcomes challenges, to which he answered that he asks his friends and family for advice and figures out a solution. He also took questions on handling stress and love issues. The students were very impressed with what they heard from both Monisha and Farhan. For some of them it was the first time interacting with a person with cerebral palsy and a few shared that they were inspired to do more for people like Farhan and Monisha.
It was an extremely good session and both Farhan and Monisha enjoyed every bit of it. It was also the first time for them to interact with people who wanted to know more about them and their lives. It was absolutely amazing for CMR NPS to give these thought provoking projects to their students and encourage them to think about people with disabilities and devices/ technology to help them.
